The Consultant works in collaboration with students and other members of the campus community to develop and implement best practices in promoting inclusive design and determining and providing reasonable accommodations. Applying independent judgment and expertise, the Access Consultant works with students, faculty and administrators to advance the institutional commitment to disability access and inclusion and improve the accessibility of campus through the delivery of programs and services that reframe disability and promote inclusive design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES\/DUTIES<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DIRECT SERVICES:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ticss-4a070769 wp-block-list\"><li>Meets with students to identify barriers to full participation in curricular and co-curricular environments and determine appropriate accommodations, reviewing additional sources of information as needed<\/li><li>Coordinates the provision of reasonable accommodations in consultation with students, faculty and staff<\/li><li>Provides consultation, information, resources and referral to disabled students and University faculty, staff and administrators<\/li><li>Maintains appropriate records by documenting communication with and regarding students and others who are involved in the process of facilitating access and recording recommended courses of action or accommodations<\/li><li>Participates actively in the continuing development of services, programs and activities<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ticss-f9bcd0f9 wp-block-list\"><li>Participates in environmental access work to improve the design of curricular, information, physical and co-curricular environments<\/li><li>Provides consultation throughout the University on universal design, social construction of disability, and intersections of disability with campus environments<\/li><li>May participate on University committees, task forces, and networks and serve as a liaison to other departments<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY (RESEARCH, INSTRUCTION, SUPERVISION, DEVELOPMENT)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ticss-a73b802e wp-block-list\"><li>Maintains membership with relevant professional organizations<\/li><li>Stays abreast of national, state, and local disability-related issues&nbsp;<\/li><li>Participates in professional development activities through presentation, publications, attendance at conferences and\/or related activities&nbsp;<\/li><li>Maintains appropriate confidentiality in verbal and written communications&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ticss-5b1bec23 wp-block-list\"><li>Master\u2019s in a human service related field or disability studies&nbsp;<\/li><li>Two years experience working in higher education&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ticss-4c7a5de4 wp-block-list\"><li>Knowledge of models of disability and inclusive educational design and their application in higher education&nbsp;<\/li><li>Knowledge of the application of federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students&nbsp;<\/li><li>Strong written and interpersonal communication skills&nbsp;<\/li><li>Skill at developing and delivering professional presentations and workshops&nbsp;<\/li><li>Working knowledge of common computer applications (e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, databases)&nbsp;<\/li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of campus and community resources<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exploreaccess.org\/refocus2\/practices\/administration-and-structure\/job-descriptions\/\"><strong>Return to Job Descriptions<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Return to Job Descriptions<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":402,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"neve_meta_sidebar":"full-width","neve_meta_container":"default","neve_meta_enable_content_width":"on","neve_meta_content_width":100,"neve_meta_title_alignment":"","neve_meta_author_avatar":"","neve_post_elements_order":"","neve_meta_disable_header":"off","neve_meta_disable_footer":"off","neve_meta_disable_title":"off","neve_meta_reading_time":"","_themeisle_gutenberg_block_has_review":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-865","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.2 -
